Tiberias is located at the the lower Galille, west of the Kinneret lake – The sea of Galilee. Its location end weather make Tiberias an excellent holiday resort, while its history – especially the Multiplication of the Loaves and the Walking on the Waters make it a popular pilgrimage destination.
Named after Tiberius Caesar, Tiberias was also home to the “Sanhedrin” – the great Jewish council, and it is related to as the place where the “Talmud Yerushalmi” (Jerusalem Talmud) was written.
Tiberias is one of the holiest cities in Israel (along with Jerusalem, Safed and Hebron), and as such, is mostly populated with different religious Jewish communities.
